The Birdman Rally is a beach competition that still exists in this day and age.. The contestants who participate in this event attempt to draw attention to themselves by creating something totally original by way of building a flying machine from parts composed of discarded material, constructing a basic frame resembling a craft, and taking that vehicle tumbling into the ocean from a jetty in one inglorious swoop for all the punters witnessing the event "live", and those tuned into the televised transmission.
